Michael Paxton Ennis

February 13, 1953 — June 28, 2025

Michael Paxton Ennis was born on February 13, 1952, and departed this Earth on June 28, 2025, at 73 years of age. He was a proud veteran, loving father & grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and a deeply loyal friend. He passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of patriotism, laughter, friendship, and unconditional love to all he knew.

Mike’s greatest joy in life was his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Casey “Ennis” Sprabary and her husband, Chris Sprabary; his son, Walsh Ennis; and his two cherished grandsons, Jay Guajardo and Nash Sprabary — all of Ponder, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Ennis and wife Beverly; and two nieces, Jackie Knipp and husband Jeff, and Jamie Ennis. He also leaves behind several special great nieces & nephews, and a lifetime of dear friends who were like family.

Mike never met a stranger and was always the first to share a smile or strike up a conversation. He lived to laugh and made sure everyone around him did too. A true storyteller and a one-of-a-kind character, he found joy in the simplest things.

A proud U.S. Army veteran and longtime member of the American Legion, Mike loved his country and served it with honor. He played taps for countless veterans over the years in honor of their service — a gesture that spoke to the deep respect he carried for those who served.

Mike was lovingly known to those closest to him as “Ukie,” a nickname that carried with it decades of mischief, humor, and affection. His friendships meant the world to him, and many of his closest friends had been by his side since childhood.

He spent much of the latter part of his life as a truck driver, traveling across the U.S., stopping in to see friends and family along the way, and sharing his adventures through pictures. He also had a fierce love for The Eagles and Kentucky Wildcats basketball - he proudly bled blue; in his own words, he was “allergic to red.”

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Henderson Ennis and Nellie Graves Paxton; his paternal grandparents, Adolphus & Vera Ennis; and his maternal grandparents, Creed & Olive Paxton.

Mike’s life was full of sincerity, humor, and love — and his quiet faith in Jesus carried him through life’s highs and lows. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dad’s wishes were to be cremated and brought home to Green River in lieu of a formal service. A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Hall in Greensburg, KY on August 2, 2025 at 1pm CST for all who knew and loved my sweet daddy. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please share a meal with someone you love, help someone in need, or pay kindness forward. Donations can also be made in his honor to positively impact the lives of veterans at: www.mylegion.org.

With love,
