Mr. Washington “Pete” Vaughn of Summersville, Kentucky was born on July 27, 1921 to the late Robert Lee Vaughn and Daisy Ella McCubbins Vaughn. He departed this life on May 27, 2021 at his home having attained the age of 99 years and ten months.
He made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Hodges Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Vaughn served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He was a lifelong farmer and always had an abundant garden.
He thoroughly enjoyed talking on the phone to his friends and often frequented Lewis Grocery and IGA. Affectionately known as “Poppy” or “Mr. Pete,” he always liked to see his friends, telling stories of times gone by and catching up on the current news.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vanda Vanese “Neesie” Vaughn on December 28, 2014, having united in marriage on November 11, 1944.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Vicki and John Gupton of Summersville; one granddaughter: Hannah Gupton of Summersville and her fiancé, Daniel Lovett of Campbellsville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by a brother: Woodruff Vaughn; and a sister: Pauline Lewis.
The funeral services for Mr. Washington “Pete” Vaughn will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 31, 2021 at the Gupton – Landrum Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Wilson Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Marion County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Bro. Greg Whitlow, Bro. Finis Berry and Bro. Meryl Young officiating.
Visitation is requested from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Central Time, Sunday, May 30, 2021 and after 8:00 A.M. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
